It was difficult for Beejay to chase the Invisible.
Imagine traveling 60 miles through a whiteout by snowmobile in the dead of winter at -60°F to the airport in Nome, to fly 600 miles to Anchorage for treatment. Getting there, getting treated and getting back would be an arduous, risky one-week process. Furthermore, BJ – already weak – could not go alone; Tom needed to be her snowmobile driver and travel minder. When they left the village, who would care for their children, their dogs and their reindeer herd?
